Integrative Oncology: From Evidence and Supportive Care to Clinical Integration
Integrative Oncology combines conventional cancer treatment with evidence-informed complementary approaches to address supportive care, symptom management, quality of life, and the needs of patients across the cancer care continuum.
The Integrative Oncology Track at the 18th European Congress of Integrative Medicine (ECIM) and the 4th International Congress of Traditional, Complementary and Integrative Medicine opens with a critical examination of the current state of evidence and its implementation in clinical oncology. This scientific framework will address how integrative approaches can be evaluated and incorporated into cancer care, with particular attention to evidence, safety, clinical relevance, and their appropriate use alongside conventional treatment.
Building on this foundation, the programme will explore phytotherapy and clinical aromatherapy in oncology, addressing evidence and safety as well as the translation of research and clinical experience into practice. Aromatherapy will be examined from an international and multidisciplinary perspective, including clinical care models, nursing practice, quality of therapeutic products, and the pathway from research to implementation.
A dedicated focus on evidence-based supportive approaches will cover areas including acupuncture for symptom and pain management, vitamin C in oncology, and the evolving evidence on the microbiome in cancer treatment. These topics will be considered within the broader context of supportive cancer care and the critical appraisal of available scientific evidence.
The track will also address the global development of Integrative Oncology through research, best practice, education, and advocacy, alongside clinical perspectives on phytotherapy, ozone therapy, survivorship, and homeopathy in oncology. Across all sessions, emphasis will remain on the strength of evidence, patient safety, potential interactions, clinical applicability, and coordinated integration with conventional oncology care.
By connecting scientific evidence with clinical implementation and international experience, the track provides a multidisciplinary platform for advancing evidence-informed, safe, and patient-centered Integrative Oncology.
