Prof. Georg Seifert
Professor Dr. med. Georg Seifert is a distinguished professor and senior physician in pediatrics and holds Europe’s first professorship in integrative medicine in pediatrics at Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin, Germany. He also serves as a Visiting Professor at the University of São Paulo, Brazil and is President of the European Society for Integrative Medicine (ESIM).
At Charité, Professor Seifert is the founding director of the Charité Competence Center for Complementary, Traditional and Integrative Medicine (CCCTIM), which also serves as Germany’s WHO Collaborating Centre for Integrative Medicine and Prevention. The center is dedicated to translating experiential knowledge from traditional, complementary, and integrative medicine into evidence based clinical practice grounded in rigorous scientific research. Its mission is to expand opportunities for health promotion, prevention, and therapy across society, with a particular focus on children and adolescents.
His research spans a broad range of areas, including mind body medicine, nutrition, health promotion, food systems, phytotherapy, salutogenetic approaches, and whole medical systems. His work is guided by a salutogenetic perspective that understands health as a dynamic, multidimensional process shaped by biological, social, cultural, and ecological factors, and is increasingly framed within the concept of planetary salutogenesis, linking human health with the health of ecosystems and the environment.
Professor Seifert is deeply committed to advancing the meaningful integration of traditional, complementary, and integrative medicine into modern healthcare systems. He is particularly interested in its potential to foster innovation, resilience, and sustainability in healthcare, in alignment with the global strategy of the World Health Organization, to which he contributes as a TCIM expert.
