SHORT BIOGRAPHY
Prof. Dr. Nuray Yazihan is graduated from Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine (English program). She received his Physiology specialization from Osmangazi University Faculty of Medicine and her PhD in Pathophysiology from the Department of Internal Medicine, Ankara University Faculty of Medicine. She has Associate Professor degrees in Physiology and Internal Medicine-Pathopathology. She got Professor degree in 2004.
Currently Prof. Yazihan is the Head of the Department of Pathophysiology, Internal Medicine Department, Ankara University Faculty of Medicine (2017-), and the Head and founding faculty member of the Department of Interdisciplinary Food Metabolism and Clinical Nutrition, Ankara University Institute of Health Sciences (2017-). She is a member of the Board of Directors of the Ankara University Food Safety Institute.
She conducted research at Heidelberg University Faculty of Medicine (Germany – 2008-2010, with project support from TUBITAK and IntenC at different times) on respiratory physiology and the immune modulation in respiratory diseases, artificial lung modeling, organoid models and hypoxia/inflammation in the lungs. Prof. Dr. Nuray Yazihan worked as the scientific coordinator for the COVID-19 nasal vaccine and was a member of the board of directors of the Turkish Ministry of Health’s TUSEB Vaccine Institute.
She received training in “Mastering Brain Chemistry” at the Walsh Institute in the USA. Prof. Dr. Yazihan holds international masterclass instructor certificates and training in “Medical Simulation” from CB Lyon University, France, and “Medical Informatics” from AAF, Salzburg.
She conducted research on mathematical modelling in complex systems at the Santa Fe Institute (USA-2004). Since 2005, she has participated as project leader and expert in projects for the Turkish Ministry of Health, the United Nations (UNDP), UNICEF, the World Bank, etc., within the scope of her modeling studies. She has numerous national and international publications, books, and reports on “Health Economics and Policies, risk/benefit analyses,” “cancer screening programs,” and “public health and preventive medicine,” and has been involved in the establishment of the “National Cancer Institute” and the drafting of legislative proposals on “Tobacco and its health effects.”
She has served as a member of the TUSSIDE health focus group and the TÜBİTAK Science, Technology and Innovation Policies Board (BTYPK) Food Supply Security Working Group.
She also held positions as the chairperson of the Faculty of Medicine’s Research Strategies Coordination Board, chairperson of the Human Research Ethics Committee, and member of the Clinical Research Ethics Committee.
Her research continues in areas such as “Personalized Medicine and Nutrition”, “Amino Acids and Peptides”, “Integrative and Functional Medicine”, “Nutrition in Exercise and Sports”, “Clinical Nutrition”, “Healthy Living, Well-being”, “Women’s Health and Nutrition”, “Functional Foods”, “ Artificial Digestion Models and Mucosal Immunity” and “Health Policies and Economics”.
Dr. Yazihan has over 200 scientific publications and presentations. She has served as a project leader, researcher, and consultant in numerous scientific projects supported by national and international organizations.
She is a member of the Clinical Research and Projects Scientific Board of the Traditional and Complementary Medicine Institute (TÜGET) of the Turkish Health Institutes Presidency (TÜSEB).
