Integrative Apitherapy: From Scientific Evidence and One Health to Innovation and Practice

Integrative Apitherapy brings together contemporary scientific research and traditional knowledge to examine bee products and apitherapeutic approaches in terms of their composition, biological properties, quality, standardization, safety, and potential applications in health.

The Integrative Apitherapy Track at the 18th European Congress of Integrative Medicine (ECIM) and the 4th International Congress of Traditional, Complementary and Integrative Medicine opens with Bees and the One Health Concept, highlighting the interconnected health of bees, humans, animals, and ecosystems. The programme will explore healthy beekeeping for apitherapy, botanical origin and biological properties of honey and stingless bee products, perspectives on bee health and animal health, and emerging approaches such as beehive air inhalation.

Building on this framework, a dedicated session on bee products as functional foods will examine their biochemistry, nutritional value, composition, quality, and standardization. Particular attention will be given to the scientific characterization and standardization of complex bee products, including propolis, as essential foundations for reproducible research, quality assurance, and future applications.

The programme will also explore innovation rooted in tradition, addressing analytical approaches to hive air, the evolving use of bee products in cosmetics, and innovations in apitherapy. These discussions will examine how traditional applications can be investigated through modern analytical methods, scientific evaluation, technological development, and evidence-informed approaches.

A further session will place apitherapy within a global and sociocultural perspective, examining its relationship with different traditional medical systems, including Ayurveda, Traditional Chinese Medicine, and South American traditions. This international perspective will highlight the diversity of traditional knowledge while emphasizing the importance of its rigorous scientific evaluation.

Across the track, particular attention will be given to scientific evidence, biological characterization, quality and standardization, safety, innovation, biodiversity, and One Health. By connecting research, traditional knowledge, and emerging applications, the track provides a multidisciplinary platform for advancing the scientific development of Integrative Apitherapy.
