Prof Dr. Rogier Hoenders
Prof Dr. Rogier Hoenders is an integrative psychiatrist, lifestyle coach and mindfulness trainer. He founded the Center for Integrative Psychiatry of Lentis, a large community mental health hospital in the North of the Netherlands, in 2007. He initiated and directs the Lentis lifestyle program, in which patients as well as over 200 staff members were trained in mind-body medicine and a healthy lifestyle, including spirituality.
He is a professor of lifestyle, spirituality and mental health at the University of Groningen. Rogier’s current research interests are spirituality, lifestyle and integrative medicine. He runs RCTs on the effects of Yoga, Mindfulness and Lifestyle change and supervises junior and senior researchers, and PhD candidates. He authored over 100 publications in Dutch and English. He is on the board of the European Journal for Integrative Medicine and the Dutch Journal for Lifestyle Medicine.
He is one of the initiators and a core member of the national guideline committee on spirituality in mental healthcare. As a former deputy-director of the residency program psychiatry of Lentis and a clinical instructor in psychiatry, Rogier has a passion for teaching.
He is the founding chair of the Dutch consortium for integrative medicine and Health. Rogier has chaired a series of 8 national conferences on integrative medicine from 2006 to 2021. He is now the president of the 2027 ISCMR and ECIM world congress on integrative medicine in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.. As a world expert, Rogier works with EUROCAM, a special interest groups at the European Parliament, and with WHO and the presidents of other national consortia for integrative medicine on developing policy regarding integrative medicine.
