Prof. Dr. Fatih Demirci
He received his Pharmacist degree from the Faculty of Pharmacy of Anadolu University, in 1992. In the year 1995, he obtained his MSc degree in Chemistry, School of Chemical Sciences of the University of East Anglia, Norwich in UK. During his PhD, he has worked both at HEJ Research Institute of Chemistry, in Pakistan and at the Department of Pharmacognosy at the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Mississippi Oxford in the United States, respectively. He earned his Faculty position the year after, and was appointed as staff and Assistant Professor in the Department of Pharmacognosy at the Faculty of Pharmacy, Anadolu University, Eskisehir, Türkiye.
In 2002, he moved as post-doctoral scientific co-worker and researcher to the University of Regensburg, Department of Pharmaceutical Biology, Germany, where he worked on bioassays, herbal medicinal products besides teaching, until the end of 2003. In 2005, he was appointed as fulltime staff and as Associate Professor at the Department of Pharmacognosy, Eskisehir, followed by his Professorship in 2010. Among his administrative duties, he served as deputy, thereafter as director at the Graduate School of Health Sciences until 2014, and as the Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences until 2017.
He has more than200 international peer reviewed publications, 20 book Chapters, and is editor of several text books, and in the editorial boards of various Natural Product journals. He has more than 30 national international industry/research projects; and more than 200 national and international presentations and 40 PCT applications. Among his academic achievements; referring to Google Scholar, about 8800 citations with an h-index 51. As entrepreneurs with Prof. Baser the Badebio Biotechnology Ltd. Company, a R&D spin-off was founded in 2009.
He is still working as a full faculty member in the Faculty of Pharmacy. He served as coordinator of the Health Management program at the Open Education Faculty until end of 2023. From 2019 to 2023 teaching duties at the Eastern Mediterranean University, the Faculty of Pharmacy in Cyprus were fulfilled. Since 2005 he is teaching at Lefke European University, Faculty of Pharmacy. Teaching and workshop activities include undergraduate and postgraduate levels as well as Chambers of Pharmacies. During his academic activities He also organized of various national and international workshops, symposia and conferences. He is still working in the Herbal Medicinal Products Committee of the Ministry of Health, Turkish Medicines and Medical Devices Institution. He has received the Science award of Anadolu University, in 2012, and the Science Award of Turkish Pharmacists’ Association in 2022.
His research focus is on the chemistry and biological activity of natural products especially on terpenes. In vitro and in silico bioassays, enzyme inhibitors, broad spectrum antimicrobials, combination products towards synergistic activity and biotransformations of natural compounds is among his medicinal chemistry drug discovery approaches. He is also involved in phytotherapeutical as well as aromatherapeutical R&D and product development.
