Halise Betül Gökçe

Halise Betül Gökçe, PhD, is an Assistant Professor and Head of the Department of
Pharmaceutical Technology at the Faculty of Pharmacy, Afyonkarahisar Health Sciences
University (AFSÜ), Türkiye. She is a pharmaceutical technologist specializing in drug delivery
systems, dermal and semi-solid formulations, and controlled release strategies, with a research
focus that bridges pharmaceutical sciences, natural bioactives, microbiota-related compounds,
and integrative health approaches.
Her work centers on transforming biologically derived and plant-based compounds into stable,
reproducible, and evidence-based pharmaceutical formulations. In this context, she contributes
to the development of scientifically validated products at the intersection of traditional
knowledge and modern pharmaceutical technology.

Biography and Expertise
Dr. Halise Betül Gökçe represents a new generation of pharmaceutical scientists working at the
interface of formulation science and integrative health. Her research focuses on lipid-based
carriers, liposomes, hydrogels, polymeric delivery systems, and dermal/transdermal
applications.
A distinctive aspect of her work is her focus on integrating microbiota-related compounds,
postbiotics, and natural product-based actives into modern pharmaceutical systems. Rather than
approaching integrative medicine from a purely theoretical perspective, she emphasizes
formulation-driven validation, aiming to convert promising biological materials into
standardized and pharmaceutically acceptable dosage forms. This approach positions her work
within an interdisciplinary framework that connects traditional knowledge, emerging biological
sciences, and evidence-based pharmaceutical development.

Professional Career
Dr. Gökçe’s academic career reflects a strong commitment to pharmaceutical technology and
translational research.
• Assistant Professor & Head of Department, Pharmaceutical Technology, AFSÜ:
She leads academic and research activities within the department, contributing to both
education and scientific development in pharmaceutical technology.
• Academic Teaching and Mentorship: She actively teaches undergraduate pharmacy
students in areas such as pharmaceutical technology, dispersed systems, emulsions,
suspensions, semi-solid dosage forms, solid dosage forms, cosmetic formulations, and
formulation principles, integrating theoretical knowledge with practical application.

Academic Qualifications
Dr. Gökçe has a strong academic foundation in pharmaceutical sciences:
• PhD in Pharmaceutical Technology (2024) – Hamidiye Institute of Health Sciences,
University of Health Sciences
• Bachelor of Pharmacy (2018) – Hacettepe University
Her doctoral research focused on postbiotic-loaded liposomal carrier systems for atopic
dermatitis, providing her with advanced expertise in lipid-based systems and controlled release
technologies.

Research and Scientific Focus
Dr. Gökçe’s research portfolio includes:
• Drug delivery systems and controlled release technologies
• Dermal, semi-solid, and transdermal formulations
• Lipid-based carriers, liposomes, hydrogels, and polymeric systems
• Postbiotics, microbiota-related compounds, and natural product-based formulations
• Dermocosmetic and veterinary pharmaceutical applications
Her work emphasizes the development of formulation strategies that enhance stability, efficacy,
and usability of active compounds. She is currently working on novel topical systems
combining natural compounds and postbiotics with advanced carrier technologies, as well as
formulation approaches for veterinary applications, reflecting a translational and
interdisciplinary research perspective.
She has also contributed to the scientific literature through publications in SCI-Expanded and
national journals, along with book chapters in pharmaceutical and interdisciplinary biomedical
fields. In addition, she has presented her research at international scientific meetings,
demonstrating her active engagement in knowledge dissemination and the global scientific
community.

Research, Projects, and Innovation
Beyond academic research, Dr. Gökçe is actively involved in project development with a focus
on innovation and practical application. She leads and contributes to a diverse portfolio of
funded research and innovation projects focused on product-oriented pharmaceutical
development.
As a principal investigator, she develops postbiotic and natural oil-based biodegradable systems
for veterinary applications, alongside liposomal formulations derived from plant extracts. In
parallel, she participates as a researcher in projects exploring hemostatic systems,
microemulsion-based gels, and innovative educational technologies such as virtual reality in

pharmacy. This project-oriented approach strengthens the connection between academic
research and real-world product development.

Future Perspective
Dr. Gökçe’s long-term goal is to advance pharmaceutical technology as a bridge discipline
connecting traditional knowledge, natural bioactives, and modern formulation science. She
aims to develop scientifically grounded, scalable, and applicable health products while
contributing to the education of future pharmacists and researchers.
Her work is guided by the principle of combining scientific rigor with practical relevance,
ultimately supporting the development of safer, more effective, and innovative therapeutic
strategies.
